A major player in the fight to get Nebraskans screened for colon cancer, Alan G. Thorson, MD is a colon and rectal surgeon with Colon & Rectal Surgery Inc. in Omaha. He holds medical staff appointments in seven Nebraska hospitals. He is the second vice president of the National Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society for 2007, past president of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and has served on the Program, Continuing Medical Education and Outcomes Measurement Committees for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
In addition, he is Director of Residency Training in colon and rectal surgery and Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Creighton and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Thorson has given many presentations in Nebraska, nationally and internationally. He has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, posters and videotapes, primarily related to colorectal cancer. He has received the American Medical Association Physician’s Award and his name has appeared on “The Best Doctors in America.” Dr. Thorson is a member of the Every Woman Matters Medical Advisory Committee and has been instrumental in the development of the Nebraska Colon Cancer Screening Program and wants to hear your questions.
